Steelcase's Leap Chair Technology Expands to Automobile Industry

Johnson Controls, one of the industry’s major suppliers of integrated seating and interior automotive systems, is teaming along with Steelcase, the nation’s top supplier and manufacturer of office furniture to introduce Leap technology to the automobile industry.

The new automobile seat will feature Steelcase’s Leap chair technology, designed to support the driver and passenger’s lower back. The technology allows the seat to automatically adjust as the seat back reclines, improving comfort, posture and support for the individual while driving.

Steelcase’s high performance Leap chair has already redefined ergonomic office seating. Leap seating technology was designed based on extensive research of the human body and how to support it, enabling the chair to adapt to a range of body types, shapes and positions.

Steelcase’s patented Live Back™ technology was introduced with the Leap chair in 1999. It allows the chair to conform to an individual’s spinal motion. The Leap chair also features the Natural Glide™ system, which enables the seat to glide forward as the user reclines. Both technologies allow individuals to remain comfortable, satisfying the demand for healthy seating.

The Leap chair is truly a leap forward in design, ergonomics, comfort and value. It was engineered to provide a long and useful life and to minimize the impact on the environment.
